Tehran (IP) - The opening ceremony of the Asian Snooker Championship was held in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran PressIran News: The Asian Snooker Championship is being held in Tehran on June 17th, and the tournament will continue until June 25th.

Speaking at the event, Iran's Sports and Youth Minister said that Iranian teenagers and youths should know that Iran, and the Islamic Revolution, have gone through a lot of ups and downs to remain resolute, so we appreciate and trust them.

Hamid Sajjadi added: "Sports commissions and teams should pay tribute to the martyrs because they sacrificed their lives defending the homeland and maintaining security."

This is the fourth time that the Bowling, Billiard & Boules Federation of I.R.Iran (BBFIR) hosts the Asian and World Championship.

The tournament will feature three divisions: 6 Reds, team, and under 21 years.

Following the registration deadline, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Syria, India, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Kuwait, Palestine, Iraq, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Thailand, and Myanmar have all confirmed their participation alongside Hong Kong and the host country Iran.

As a professional sport, snooker is now governed by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. The World Snooker Championship first took place in 1927. Joe Davis, a key figure and pioneer in the early growth of the sport, won fifteen successive world championships between 1927 and 1946.
