The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and his Iraqi counterpart have underlined the need to broaden cooperation in security fields.

Iran PressIran News: In a meeting in Tehran on Monday, Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Qassim al-Araji explored ways for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations, especially in the security area. 

Ahmadian said that the recent security agreement signed between Iran and Iraq is the result of months of the two sides’ negotiations and joint efforts, as well as a roadmap for establishing stable security at the borders.

He described religious and civilizational commonalities between Iran and Iraq as a guarantee for deep relations.

The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stressed the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported governments based on people’s determination.

"We expect the Iraqi government to guarantee the security of the common borders with Iran as soon as possible, within the framework of the agreement and by ending the presence of anti-revolution elements in the country," he stated.

For his part, Al-Araji said that the Iraqi government and the national security body are determined to interact with Iran in all fields.

He emphasized Iraq’s commitment to the recent agreement with Iran.
