Tehran (IP) - A flash flood in northeastern Iran killed four people and swept away several cars.

Iran PressIran News: According to the Department of Crisis Management of North Khorasan Province, severe flooding in Shirvan and Faruj counties caused a slew of missing person reports.

In Golian, Maivan, and Ostad villages in Golian Rural District, in the Central District of Shirvan County, a search and rescue operation is underway by police and rescue services as at least 10 people remain unaccounted for after flash floods swept through the regions.

A number of key road links have been blocked as a result of floods.

The meteorological department of the province has predicted that rainfall and shower will continue today in different areas of the province.

21 Red Crescent rescue teams, including 84 rescuers, have been dispatched to the flooded rural areas of Faruj, Shirvan, and Esfarayen counties.

44% of the population of the province lives in rural areas.
