An explosive device left over from past wars exploded in Deyak district of Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Sunday, leaving one child dead and injured another, a district police officer Niyaz Mohammad said on Monday.

Iran PressAsia: Two children, 9 and 12, found the toy-like explosive device in Deyak district on Sunday and wanted to take it home, but the device went off suddenly, killing one on the spot and injuring another, the official asserted.

This is the second incident of its kind over the past six days. In the previous incident, an explosive device which had been left over from the past wars exploded and killed two sisters in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Tuesday.

Afghanistan reportedly is one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world as dozens of people, mostly children, are killed and maimed every month due to blasts of unexploded devices left over from the past four decades of wars and civil conflicts.
