Chabahar (IP): Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday evening that the heads of state of Afghanistan recognize Iran's water share to the Hirmand River and accept it.

Iran PressIran news: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, on Wednesday evening, in the meeting to speed up the process of pursuing Iran's water share to the Hirmand River, which was attended by Special Envoy of the Iranian President for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi and Iran's ambassador to Afghanistan, the governor of Sistan and Baluchistan, and a group of officials, stated: "Once the Sistan region was a grain store and an agricultural hub, now it has fallen to this day and every human being is offended by the current conditions of the region."

He said: "We understand the problems and hardships of the people of Sistan and we accept the shortage of water."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that we want to give a report on what actions we have taken in relation to the follow-up of Iran's share of  Hirmand's water and added: "I talked a lot with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, regarding Iran's share of Hirmand's water, and even before this meeting I called him and the issues I raised the demands of the people of Sistan once again."

He said: "The Minister of Energy had a trip to Afghanistan for the right of water to Afghanistan and other officials are also following this issue."

Amir- Abdolahian continued: "The rulers of Afghanistan accept Iran's claim and do not say that we will not supply Iran with water give water. The Taliban say that there is not enough water in the Kajaki Dam to release the water."

He clarified: In the Hirmand Treaty 1973, it is stated that 850 million cubic meters of water should be given to Iran annually, but the rulers of Afghanistan say that if we open the dam now, the water will not reach Iran.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated: We informed them to check the amount of water according to experts, satellite photos and evaluation of the joint team and release the water.

He continued: Our expert team is ready to travel to Afghanistan and check the issue of whether the Kajaki Dam really has water or not, then this issue will be known.

Referring to other measures related to water supply in the Sistan region, Amir Abdollahian added: A deep well has been dug in this region and the plan to transfer water from the Sea of Oman is underway, but this issue takes time.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived in Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchistan province on Wednesday evening to pursue Iran's water share from Hirmand.
