Tehran(IP) - President of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the signing ceremony of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway said that the country is determined to boost economic ties with Russia.

Iran PressIran news: Ebrahim Raisi stressed the strategic importance of the agreement to boost Iran-Russia ties.

Referring to the cooperation between Iran and Russia, he stated that other countries on the North-South Corridor route will take advantage as well.  

The North-South Corridor will be a manifestation of friendship and economic cooperation between all countries, said President adding that "After 20 years of postponement, the project is getting finalized with the will of Iranian-Russian officials, which will help the economy and transportation."

Pointing out Iran's regional position connecting East Asia to Europe, Raisi stated:" The arrogance system seeks to bypass Iran, but we all know that the country's route is the cheapest, most economical, and closest route for commercial, economic, and transit work, and it is well known that today Iran can be a bridge to connect East Asia to Europe."

Three important parts of the agreement are: "The eastern part including Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran. Central part of the Caspian Sea where ports and fleet should be strengthened, and the western part whose shortage of railway will be covered through Rasht-Astara agreement," Raisi noted.

Pointing out that there are other routes including Pakistan-Iran-Turkey, Shalamcheh-Basra, Chabahar-Zahedan, and the maritime connection between Oman and the Persian Gulf, Raisi expressed hope that Iran's regional and international economy will be restored.
