Iran Press/ Iran News: Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid arrived in Tehran on Saturday morning for a one-day official visit at the invitation of Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi.
On the sidelines of the meeting of Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi and his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid on Saturday, Ali-Akbar Mehrabian said that negotiations were held during the meeting over the economic and political aspects of the two countries' use of the border rivers.
Mehrabian said that to manage the water resources, the presidents took into account three main approaches, namely technical, legal, and managerial approaches.
From the technical point of view, each country's share for the use of water rights should be accurately identified and received based on the calculated amounts, he said.
As with the legal aspect, the minister referred to the 1975 Convention according to which the water shares must be pursued, adding that in the meeting, the two countries were supposed to resume the commission meetings about water shares, which have been suspended since 2012.
Mehrabian stressed the Iraqi side's special attention to the water distribution across Iraq and said that Iran is ready to share its experiences in water management with Iraq.
