Amir-Abdollahian:

Moscow(IP)- Iran's foreign minister said the country welcomed the Chinese President's idea to maintain peace in Ukraine.

Iran PressEurope: Heading a delegation to Russia in response to Lavrov's invitation, Hossein Amir-Abollahian arrived in Moscow on Wednesday and met with the Russian Foreign Minister. 

In a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday, Iran's foreign minister said: "We welcomed the idea of the Chinese President regarding peace in Ukraine."

Amir-Abdollahian also stressed that sending Western weapons to Ukraine would just add to the complications of the situation in the country.

He noted: "Iran has supported the idea of the Chinese President regarding world peace and security. We welcome any initiative that leads to sustainable peace in the region and the world."

Russia suggested the establishment of a new format in the Caucasus, comprising three Caucasian states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and their three big neighbors Russia, Turkiye, and Iran.

Iran supports 3+3 mechanism for peace in Caucasus

Elsewhere, Iran's foreign minister referred to the 3+3 mechanism that Russia suggested to settle the crisis in the Caucasian area and said: "We believe that the regional crises must be settled through the 3+3 mechanism and without resorting to force; I hope that the efforts would result in the peaceful settlement crises."

The format will address the issues of security, and unblocking economic and transport ties in the mentioned region.

The Iranian FM then reiterated: "We reject any change in the geopolitics of the region with any justification. We believe that different parties should deal with this issue through dialogue and a political solution."

Syria crisis

Concerning the Syrian issue, he referred to the quadrilateral meeting of Iran, Russia, Syria, and Turkiye and stated that during his recent trip to Turkiye and Russia, he discussed holding the meeting with the two country's officials.

Iran-Russia cooperation shoring up

Amir-Abdollahain in his remarks also said: "We are witnessing good progress in the bilateral cooperation between the two countries." 

"Perhaps, at the beginning of the new phase of cooperation between Iran and Russia, the mutual understanding of the private sector and the public sector was a necessity. We passed the phase well and today both sides are active in various projects," he added. 

Amir-Abdollahain concluded: "Today we can clearly speak of good progress in all-round cooperation focusing on economic and commercial issues between the two countries, and both sides are satisfied with the progress of cooperation in various fields."

Iran's foreign minister expressed hope that he would receive his counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Tehran soon.
