Iran Press/ Africa: An eyewitness, Muhammad Rabeel told Iran Press that the members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria on Thursday around 4:00 pm staged a peaceful protest in Kaduna State, demanding the Federal Government of Nigeria to release the International Passport of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky so that he can travel to abroad for medication and it was going peacefully before the arrival of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru Elrufai along with his convoy comprising military and police fired teargas and live bullets at the unarmed peaceful protesters, killing 9 members of the Islamic Movement on the spot.
Another eyewitness confirmed that three commercial bus drivers were also killed by stray bullets fired by the police at Rigasa road.
Yusha'u Muhammad Auwal, a Kaduna resident whose brother was a commercial driver and was killed by stray bullets when he was passing by his car, called for an immediate investigation and justice for his deceased brother.
The incident happened less than 48 hours before the state governorship elections in Nigeria scheduled to take place on Saturday, which will bring an end to the eight years of Nasiru El-Rufai's administration that was involved in killing hundreds of Shi'a Muslims during the 2015 Zaria massacre.
Four days ago, Governor Nasiru Elrufai of Kaduna State was heard in a meeting with some Islamic scholars at Kaduna State Government House said that if Uba Sani, a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) wins the governorship election in the state as his successor, they would fight and finish the remaining Shi'a members of the Islamic Movement in the State.
Nasiru El-Rufai's candidate is facing a great challenge in the election, especially from the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Isa Ashiru who promised to allow all people of the state to practice their religion without persecution as the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ordered.
