Beijing (IP) - The Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore their relations and re-open the embassies of the two countries.

Iran PressAsia: At the end of the negotiations on Friday, March 10, 2023, a trilateral statement was signed between Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Saudi Arabia's National Security Advisor Musa'ed bin Muhammad al-Aiban, and the member of China's Political Bureau of Communist Party's Central Committee Wang Yi. 

Rear Admiral Shamkhani, Wang Yi, and Musa'ed bin Muhammad al-Aiban reached the agreement in China's Beijing during 5 days of negotiations from March 6 to 10. 

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia appreciated Iraq, China, and Oman for their hosting of the reconciliation negotiations from 2021 to 2022.

As a result of the negotiations, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and agencies within two next months, the statement added.

Accordingly, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia are scheduled to meet each other in order to take the due measures to implement the decision and begin the exchange of ambassadors.

The two countries reached an agreement based on which they must respect each other's sovereignty and domestic affairs - according to the security cooperation agreement signed on 2001/17/04 – and continue their ties based on the general agreement on cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, technical, scientific, cultural, sports and youth areas – signed on 1998/27/05.
