Fars (IP) - Samani cooking rituals were held in Shiraz of Fars Province, southern Iran, on the threshold of the Nowruz, and the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (AS).

Iran PressIran news: Samani, the Shirazi pronunciation of Samanu, is a sweet nutritious food, free from sugar; the sweet taste comes from the wheat germ used in its cuisine. It is one of the 7 elements the Iranians put on their 'Haft Sin' in Nowruz occasion.

The Shirazi people use almonds and walnut in cooking Samani, considering it as the symbol of the blessing of the new year. Cooking Samani is also the symbol of the blessing of agricultural products in the new year.

It takes 72 hours to cook Samani, during which the participants tell their wishes to God either in their heats or in their tongues.

Shiraz, with its many historical, literary, and artistic attractions, hosts Iranian and foreign tourists from different countries of the world, especially Arab countries, throughout the year.
