Baghdad (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister who is in Baghdad for a two-day official visit, meet Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, on Wednesday and the two sides reviewed issues of bilateral importance.

Iran Press / Iran news: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the top Iranian diplomat arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday morning.

Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, and Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid in Baghdad.

Amir-Abdollahian and Fuad Hussein also took part in a joint press conference.

Iran, Iraq to finalise long-term cooperation document

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in a meeting in Baghdad on Wednesday, reviewed issues of bilateral importance.

The Iranian foreign minister underlined the need for Iraq to settle its overdue debts to Iran, and control the joint border between the two countries, urging the necessity for the practice of Iraq’s sovereignty in preventing any provocative move against Iran.

Amir-Abdollahian also urged linking routes and transportation between the two neighboring countries, holding the next round of a joint supreme committee session, and finalizing a comprehensive cooperation document between Iran and Iraq.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, hailed Iran’s support for his country, noting that Baghdad is ready to put into force all the agreements reached during his visit to Tehran.

He voiced Iraq’s readiness to continue to contribute to the establishment of peace in the region and help strengthen dialogue in regional developments.
