Tehran (IP) - Thousands of Friday prayer worshippers in the different cities of Iran on Friday staged protests against the desecration of the Holy Quran in several European countries.

Iran PressIran News: The Friday Prayer worshippers in several cities of Iran including Tehran, Qazvin, Fars, Kermanshah and Semnan gathered after Friday prayers in several cities of the country to protest against the desecration of the Holy Quran. The demonstrators condemned these actions by chanting slogans and carrying placards.

The protesters also called on the international community to confront the desecration of the sanctities and religious values of Muslims.

On Monday, a Dutch politician tore apart a copy of the Holy Qur'an in the city of The Hague. It followed an incident in Sweden where a politician burned a copy of the Qur’an outside the Turkish embassy.

The politician committed the scandalous act after receiving permission from Swedish authorities.

This inhuman act of the European citizen was strongly condemned by the Muslim countries.

Earlier, in the statement of the Islamic Propaganda Coordination Council, which was published on Thursday along with the public invitation to the people for today's gathering, it is stated: "Once again, in the ominous shadow of the support of the Western governments and the layers of the Zionist powers, and in the continuation of the organized and targeted conflict with the divine religions, the sacred space of the last holy book of nearly two billion Muslims of the world was insulted."

"This hateful move, which was carried out by the arrogant powers under the pretext of freedom of expression, caused the anger and disgust of Muslims all over the world and the believing and God-seeking ummah of our country," it added.
