Rome (IP) - The capital of Italy, is witnessing anti-government demonstrations in different areas in the first days of the new year.

Iran PressIran News: A group of managers of Italian medical equipment companies gathered in front of the governor's office of Rome on Tuesday evening, representing four thousand companies, in protest against the government's economic policy.

Eight years ago, following the worsening of the economic crisis, the Italian government called hospital equipment companies to provide part of the government credits for the purchase of hospital equipment, although it was not implemented in the past years due to the protests of the companies.

The director of one of the companies told IranPress in Rome: "We object to the government because its demand is illegal."

"Medical equipment companies have sold the equipment to government hospitals through public tenders and at the price set by the government, and I really don't know why the government is making such a request to us," he added.

According to the order of the Italian government, the hospital equipment companies are obliged to deposit $2.2b into the government account within the next week.

The protestors warned that this will not only cause the closure of many companies and put more than 112 thousand jobs at risk but also state-run hospitals and medical centers will face a shortage of medical equipment.

The Italian government has reduced the health budget in the budget of the current year due to severe financial problems.
