IP- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, in a meeting with the Mauritanian President, stressed developing Iran's cultural and artistic interactions with the Islamic world.

Iran PressAfrica: Iranian Minister of Culture Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaili left Tehran for Mauritania on Friday ( Jan. 6) to take part in the ceremony introducing Nouakchott as the cultural capital of the Islamic World.

The Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) selected Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania as the cultural capital of the Islamic World in 2023. 

Regarding the Iranian government’s new approach to public diplomacy, Esmaili said: "Fortunately, cultural interactions with the Islamic world and African countries have expanded in the Iranian government."

Consultation with the ministers of culture of different Islamic countries on the sidelines of the ceremony held in Mauritania to introduce the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, as the Culture Capital in the Islamic World for 2023 is considered the best opportunity to strengthen cultural interactions between Iran and Islamic countries.

Such meetings show well that the opportunity of civilization and Iranian culture is an important tool for deepening the public diplomacy of Iran, he added.

He emphasized the maximum use of the capacity.

Meanwhile, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani appreciated the fixed and principled positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the issues of the Islamic world.

Developing political, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries in the Middle East and North Africa will be important and strategic, he stated.
