IP - As Benjamin Netanyahu presented his new government to the Knesset on Thursday, several thousand Israelis gathered outside to protest an anticipated crackdown on minority rights, the Jerusalem post reported.

Iran PressIran News: Hundreds of Israelis protested Thursday outside the Knesset in Jerusalem as inside the parliament building a new hardline, the right-wing government was being sworn in with former prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu at its head.

Members of the outgoing government joined the protesters, among them Labor leader Merav Michaeli and other party officials.

Representatives of the Reform Movement in Israel were also present at the demonstration, protesting plans by the new government to restrict activities by non-Orthodox activists.

In a stormy session at the Knesset on Thursday that saw several lawmakers ejected, incoming premier Benjamin Netanyahu presented his coalition and its agenda, as outgoing prime minister Yair Lapid said he was passing the baton “with a sense of disquiet.”

Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn into office taking the helm of the most right-wing and religiously conservative government in Israel’s history and vowing to enact policies that could cause domestic and regional turmoil and alienate the country’s closest allies.
