Tunisia took the lead against France 1-0 in their last match of the World Cup group stage. France had previously imposed itself as a strong contender to win the trophy with impressive victories over Australia and Denmark.

Iran PressMiddle East: France can be forgiven for feeling confident ahead of today's clash after their 4-1 drubbing of Australia and their 2-1 victory over a talented, pertinacious Denmark. Tunisia, by contrast, crumbled against an unfancied but spirited Australia on Wednesday. Yet all play for in a tournament that has already sprung a fair few surprises.

It looked like such a good idea to make nine changes try and rest France's top stars after they had already secured their spot in the knockouts. But the team of mainly second choices played some very inept football for most of the match against a spirited Tunisia and Wahbi Khazri's goal was much deserved.

Deschamps brought on Mbappé, Griezmann, Rabiot, and Dembelé -- but it was not enough to overturn that Tunisia lead. It looked like Griezmann scored with a clinical finish in the last minute of injury time -- but it went to VAR after the final whistle and was ruled offside.
