FIFA World Cup:

Iran (IP) - Iran's midfielder Omid Ebrahimi suffered an injury during the friendly match with Nicaragua on Thursday and now his 2022 World Cup is over.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Iranian national football team played against the Nicaraguan team in a preparatory match at Azadi Stadium at 19:35 today (Thursday), which ended with the victory of Carlos Queiroz's lads.

Omid Ebrahimi, one of the veterans of Iran's national football team and almost certain to be included in the World Cup squad, left the field of play after only a minute or two from being substituted, falling a victim to a clumsy challenge by the Nicaraguan player. He was treated on the field but then left on a stretcher. His conditions looked serious enough for him, to miss the World Cup.

Iran will begin their World Cup campaign against England on Nov. 21 in Group B before facing Wales four days later. They completed the group stage against the United States on Nov. 29.

The Qatar World Championships will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
