Tehran (IP) - The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces announced Iran's readiness to peacefully resolve the border dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and emphasized that Tajikistan will not use Iran's Ababil 2 drones against Kyrgyzstan.

Iran PressIran News: A series of sporadic border clashes resumed between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on 27 January 2022, following a series of clashes in 2021 between the two countries.

On 19 September 2021, at least 100 people have been killed and more than 100 injured in clashes on the disputed Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border - the deadliest in years.

Fighting between the two Central Asian states broke out on Wednesday before a ceasefire was agreed upon on Friday.

Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces on Wednesday voiced Tehran's readiness to expand defense cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in a variety of fields.

Maj. Gen. Bagheri, made the comments in a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defense of Kyrgyzstan Major General Baktybek Bekbolotov on Wednesday.

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, in a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic General Baktybek Bekbolotov, referring to the sale of Iranian drones to Tajikistan, noted: "Ababil 2 drones are only capable of detection, and such drones are not equipped with offensive weapons and equipment.

"In the border conflict between the Kyrgyz Republic, they will not be used by Tajikistan because Iran does not want they use them against Kyrgyzstan," he noted.

The top Iranian general further expressed Iran's readiness for any assistance in order to peacefully resolve border disputes and border clashes between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, to prevent the reoccurrence of any conflict.

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, paid a two-day visit to Tajikistan on May 16 and 17, wherein addition to meeting with President Emomali Rahmon and senior military officials, inaugurated the Iranian UAV production line of Ababil-2 in the presence of senior Tajik military officials.
