West Azarbaijan (IP) - A water supply agreement meeting was held with the presence of the technical delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkiye.

Iran PressIran news: Iran and Turkiye share a watershed, the Aras River in Iran originates from Garasu in Turkiye, and the Zanzibar River in Iran originates from Sarisu in Turkiye.

Turkiye's dam-building policy in recent years, in addition to causing significant environmental damage to Iran, Iraq, and Syria, is also considered a clear threat to the agriculture of these countries.

The meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkiye under the responsibility of the representatives of the two countries foreign ministries and with the aim of agreeing on part of the water and border issues between Iran and Turkiye was held for three days in West Azarbaijan Province.

In the meeting, issues such as creating a suitable route for the passage of water through common border channels and dredging areas, consolidating the border river route of Marmisho, preserving the life of Lake Marmisho, and other common border issues were discussed.

The heads of the two delegations also inked a joint document.
