Lebanon (IP)- Lebanese President Michel Aoun left Lebanon's presidential palace Sunday marking the end of his six-year term without a replacement, leaving the nation in a political vacuum that is likely to worsen its historic economic meltdown.

"Najib Mikati" managed to hold the new parliamentary elections in Lebanon in May, and after that he was introduced as the new prime minister, but after several months, the new government has not yet been formed.

According to Iran Press News Agency , Michel Aoun, the President of Lebanon, announced today: I wrote a letter to the House of Representatives this morning (Sunday) based on my authority and signed the resignation of the government.

As Aoun’s term ends, the country is being run by a caretaker government after Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati failed to form a new Cabinet following May 15 parliamentary elections.

In a speech outside the palace, Aoun told thousands of supporters that he has accepted the resignation of Mikati's government.
