Tehran(IP): Iran and Finland stress cooperation in environmental issues and consider common areas in this regard.

According to Iran Press report on Sunday, in order to expand cooperation with leading countries in the field of environment, a meeting with the presence of the ambassador of Finland to Tehran and the head of the regional center of Basel and Stockholm Conventions was held to examine the fields of cooperation and development of environmental activities of the two countries.

The regional center of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions in Iran is one of the 14 regional centers in the world in the field of education, information exchange, the provision of financial resources, technical assistance and transfer of new technologies in the field of proper management of waste and chemicals included in this the convention operates in the Asia-Pacific region.

The goals of the regional center of Basel and Stockholm Conventions in Iran are to transfer environmentally friendly technologies, holding training programs, workshops, seminars and related projects in the field of proper environmental management of hazardous waste.

22 Countries including Bangladesh, Maldives, Afghanistan, Nepal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen, Pakistan, Türkiye, Syria, Oman, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan are members of Basel Convention Regional Center (BCRC) in Iran.

Basel Convention Regional Center (BCRC) in Iran is established according to Decision VII/10 of the seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 7) of the Basel Convention in October 2004. Bangladesh, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan are members of the BCRC.

The role of the Center is to assist member states and non-member states through capacity building for environmentally sound management to achieve the fulfillment of the objectives of the Convention.
