Senior officials from Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic stressed the need for boosting cultural cooperation, referring to cultural common grounds between the two countries.

Iran PressAsia: Iranian Minister of Culture Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili and Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev were meeting on the sidelines of the 12th Conference of the Information Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul on Sunday.

They noted that longstanding historical relations between Iran and Azerbaijan pave the way for further relations in all areas.

The Iranian culture minister said that President Ebrahim Raisi stresses the urgency to promote cultural ties with Azerbaijan.

Esmaili noted that a large part of the Iranian population shares a common language with the people of Azerbaijan.

He believed that dispatching media and cultural delegations would help the promotion of ties between the two countries.

For his part, the Azeri official said that he agreed to all the points mentioned by the Iranian minister.

He said that apart from cultural ties, the two countries also have economic cooperation, in transport, as well as exports and imports of goods.
