Kapan (IP) - Iranian foreign minister says Iran considers the security of Armenia as its own security and the security of the region.

Iran PressAsia: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks addressing the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s consulate in Kapan.

Today Friday, the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran was opened in the city of Kapan, Armenia, in the presence of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Ararat Mirzoyan, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Iran and the Republic of Armenia.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said at the opening ceremony of the consulate: "Our policy is to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, and Iran is trying to increase the economic cooperation between the two countries."

Amir-Abdollahian added: "Syunik Province is one of the main corridors from north to south, and we consider Armenia as one of the important transit routes between north and south, and we will cooperate with the Armenian government to strengthen and expand this route and speed up the movement of truck drivers and passengers. At the event, the Armenian foreign minister, referring to Armenia's readiness to open a Consulate General in Tabriz, said: "Iran has always been and will be Armenia's partner, and we cooperate in the political, economic, energy and transportation fields, and hope that with the opening of the Iranian Consulate General In Kapan, these cooperations should be expanded more and more."
