Iran, Armenia FMs sit for first round of talks in Yerevan

Yerevan(IP) - The first round of talks between the foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia was held in Yerevan.

Iran PressAsia: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Thursday during his visit to Armenia and discussed the most important bilateral and international issues.

Iran's Minister of Foreign affairs, in the meeting with his Armenian counterpart, considered the security of Armenia as the security of Iran.

During the meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said: "I am pleased that during this trip, we will witness the reopening of the Iranian Consulate General in Kapan."

He added: "This development is another reason for deepening historical relations between Iran and Armenia."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran stated: "We clearly stated our opposition toward any geopolitical change of borders in the Caucasus region."

"Military conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia have created concerns in the region," He added.

Amir- Abdollahian said: "The Caucasus region is going through a critical situation, and we believe that respecting the territorial integrity of countries as a principle in the Caucasus region should be seriously addressed."

Amir- Abdollahian stated: " We are happy that the relations between Tehran and Yerevan are on the right track and progressing."

He added: "We consider the security of Armenia as the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the security of the region."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran emphasized:" We have clearly expressed our concern about any action that causes the presence of foreign forces in the region."

He added: "Tonight is a good opportunity to have new agreements regarding the development of relations in various fields."

Amir-Abdollahian arrived at the Yerevan airport at the head of a high-ranking political delegation this Thursday afternoon and was welcomed by Mnatsakan Safaryan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

During this trip, Amir- Abdollahian will meet and talk with Armenian officials, and the political and economic relations between the two countries will be the most crucial focus of this meeting.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also is scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of the first Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kapan, Armenia.
