Tehran (IP) - In a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Iran's Foreign Minister noted that if the EU took any unreasonable act based on double standards, then it must await Iran's strong reaction.

Iran PressIran news: Iran's FM and his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio had a telephone conversation on Wednesday, discussing the bilateral relations, talks on lifting sanctions, and the recent unrest in Iran fueled by foreign interventions.

The interventions of a number of the European countries in Iran's recent developments caused the country's reaction such that the ambassadors of Sweden, the UK, and France to Tehran were summoned to receive Iran's protest.

Amir-Abdollahian told Di Maio: "In recent events, foreign interventionists, organized agents and terrorists derailed the peaceful gatherings of people and brought it towards violence, chaos and the killing of innocent people, the police, and security guards."

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the interventionist positions of some European authorities and warned that if the EU tended to take any unreasonable action and behave hypocritically, it must wait for the due response of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The unrest and brawls were instigated under the pretext of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died due to a sudden heart attack in a police center in Tehran on Tuesday, September 13, after being taken there for violation of dress codes along with some other women.

Under the pretext of Mahsa's death, the anti-Iranian media and bloggers affiliated with the Western states have been disseminating fake news and fueling the unrest in Iran.

The Italian foreign minister, for his part, said that Italy would show respect for the Iranian territorial integrity and extinguished the people's peaceful protest from those who waged violence and unrest in Iran.

Di Maio viced his country's support for Iran's efforts to reach a sustainable agreement in the talks for the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA): "Italy continues its actions to reach an agreement in the shortest possible time."
