Iran's foreign minister has called on the group of Eight Developing Islamic Countries (known as D8) to withstand external economic risks and barriers, and stressed the need to strengthen economic and commercial multilateralism.

Iran Press/Asia: Mohammad Javad Zarif delivered a speech to the 18th session of the D8 Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Turkey’s Antalya on Saturday.

In his comments, Zarif underlined that the D8 members need to join the large block of nations, who stand up against unilateralism.

Without directly naming the US, the top Iranian diplomat called on the D8 states to refuse to go along with any irresponsible and illegal acts, including criminal sanctions against Iran, Tasnim news agency reported.

The 18th session of the D8 Council of Foreign Ministers opened in Antalya, Turkey, on Saturday.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the event, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu referred to establishing set-off chamber in Friday meeting based on which a mechanism free of dollar and euro was underlined by member states.

Çavu?o?lu urged D-8 member states to pay attention to trade based on national currencies to be able to withstand economic threats, IRNA reported.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif, heading a delegation took part in the D-8 ministerial meeting in Turkey's Antalya.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development of co-operation among its member states, namely: Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The previous 17th session of the D8 Council was held in Istanbul in October 2017.

The 41st session of the D8 Commission was held in Istanbul from November 1 to 2 under the chairmanship of the Republic of Turkey. The commissioners and heads of delegations from all the D8 member states took part in the two-day event. 101/202
