Ankara (IP) - 'Shahriar Memorial' and the 'Persian Poetry and Literature Day' commemoration ceremony were held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, with the attendance of interested people in Iran's poetry and literature.

Iran PressAsia: September 18 has been named the 'National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature' in Iran, which coincides with the death anniversary of the legendary Iranian poet Shahriar.

Top professors of Farsi language and literature in Turkish universities, including Nemat Yildirim, professor of Erzurum University, Adnan Karaismailoğlu, professor of Crikvenica University, and Khalil Ibrahim Saraçoğlu, professor of Ankara University, were present at the commemoration ceremony of Farsi Poetry and Literature Day and delivered a speech on Farsi in Turkey.

Mohammed Farazmand, Iran's Ambassador to Turkey, in the commemoration ceremony of Persian Poetry and Literature Day and Shahriar, appreciated the efforts of the professors in Turkish universities to promote Farsi and said: "Shahriar is the only contemporary Persian poet who can be considered the essence of all poets."

Iran's ambassador to Turkey added: "Shahriar was a modern Hafez, significant in composing Masnavi, odes, and even epics and lyrics."

According to the Iran Press news agency, Nemat Yildirim, professor of Erzurum University, in a speech at the ceremony, said that he had translated the works of Iranian poets such as Ferdowsi, Rudaki, and Parveen Etesami into the Turkish language, and he has recently translated the two Saadi's books named Bostan and Golestan.

Saying that he loves Farsi, the professor emphasized: The fourth edition of the Shahnameh has been published (5,500 copies), and the people of Turkey have well received the translation of the works of Iranian poets.
