Iran foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the international community has been withstanding the US-led sanctions against Iran, while the neighboring and European nations in particular, have demonstrated a good resistance against Washington's unilateral actions.

Iran news: Speaking at the sidelines of a trilateral meeting with his Turkish and Azeri foreign ministers, the Iranian minister reiterated the fact that the Americans have failed to achieve their pre-planned target through illegal sanctions against Iran, Iran Press reported.

"Today the international community must make a choice and while this choice has nothing to do with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Iran, it is a selection to support a legal procedure vis-à-vis an illegal and coercive method," the minister said.

Zarif deplored the US government's decision to renew sanctions against Iran as a measure that runs counter to international norms and regulations.

"Unfortunately, the law-breaking America wants to punish law-abiding nations; such a procedure will inflict huge consequences on the world order," said Zarif.

Zarif also said both Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan have stressed their resolve to enhance cooperation with Iran while supporting Iran's stance as far as the illegitimate sanctions are concerned.

The Sixth Trilateral Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey was held on October 30, 2018 in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Elmar Mammadyarov and Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu discussed a wide range of issues and cooperation in various economic fields in such areas as transit, transportation, energy, customs and other issues of mutual interests.

Zarif arrived in Istanbul on Monday to partake in the official opening ceremony of Turkey's biggest airport in Istanbul.
