Kamran Ghasempour, the Iranian defending world champion at 97kg claimed the gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, winning the world championship by defeating Jayden Cox from the United States 2-0.

In the second match, Kamran Ghasempour (IRI) confirmed his place in the 92kg semifinals with a 7-2 win over Ahmed Batalev (BUL).

The Iranian defending world champion faced Miriani Maisuradze (GEO) in the semifinals and beat him.
