The US House Speaker seeks to cover that longtime vacant spot in Rome if the Republican Party ends up winning the House majority in November

Iran PressAmerica: Reportedly, the leading member of the US Democratic Party and Speaker of the House of Representatives wants to become the next ambassador to Italy.

However, Nancy Pelosi's office is pushing back on the report that the speaker will abandon her House leadership role to be US Ambassador to Italy if Republicans take a majority after the 2022 midterms.

Fox Business reported she intends to ask President Joe Biden to nominate her to the spot, should the Republican Party win the House majority in the upcoming midterm elections, as polls predict.

The US has not had a Senate-confirmed ambassador to Rome since former President Donald Trump’s envoy, Lewis Eisenberg, left the post in January 2021 and the US media reported Tuesday that the White House is holding the job open for Pelosi. 219
