Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman says the country on Wednesday afternoon received the US’s response to Tehran’s proposals aimed at resolving remaining issues during the sanctions removal talks from the EU’s coordinator of the Vienna negotiations.

Iran PressIran news: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani says the country on Wednesday afternoon received the US’s response to Tehran’s proposals aimed at resolving remaining issues during the sanctions removal talks from the EU’s coordinator of the Vienna negotiations.

Kanaani added that the Islamic Republic of Iran had started carefully reviewing the US side’s response.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also said the Islamic Republic of Iran would give its response to the EU coordinator after fully studying Washington’s response.

The initial nuclear deal signed in 2015 by Iran, the US, UK, France, and Germany – as well as Russia, China, and the EU – involved Tehran agreeing to certain restrictions on its nuclear industry in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions and other incentives.

In 2018, however, it was torpedoed by the US under then-President Donald Trump, who withdrew from the agreement unilaterally, saying it was fundamentally flawed.

As a result, Iran started gradually reducing some of its commitments under the agreement, such as the level of enriched uranium it produces, which could potentially enable Tehran to build an atomic bomb. According to the Iranian authorities, however, this "is not on the agenda."

The new round of negotiations regarding the lifting of US sanctions against Iran, which started on August 4 in Vienna, ended on August 8.

In this round of negotiations, several proposals were made by Enrique Mora, the coordinator of the European Union.

Most of the countries participating in the Vienna talks want a faster conclusion of the negotiations, but reaching a final agreement is pending the political decisions of the United States regarding some remaining important and key issues.
