American senator Lindsey Graham joked about Iranian DNA, saying that it would be “terrible” if a DNA test approved he had Iranian ancestry.

Iran  press/ America: Iranian and Iranian American social media are reacting negatively to insulting comments made by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of S. Carolina about Iranian genes. Speaking on Fox & Friends on Tuesday, in response to his Democratic colleague Elizabeth Warren, Graham joked that if he took a DNA test, it would probably show that he was "Iranian" and that'd be, like "terrible."

Graham made the comment while discussing Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) decision to release the results of a DNA test supporting her claims of Native American ancestry.

Graham is close to Israel prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu and a staunch supporter of US President Trump's sanctions against Iran.

Many Iranians in social media commented the insult by praying to God that Graham has no Iranian genes because that would be a shame for Iranian genes.

An Iranian-American group rebuked GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham after he said it would be “terrible” if a DNA test showed he had Iranian ancestry.

Jamal Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, blasted Graham’s comment as “disgusting” in a statement.

“If you dread the notion of Iranian ancestry and believe all Iranians are liars, you are hopelessly bigoted and unfit to serve in the U.S. Senate where votes affect tens of millions of Iranians and millions more of Iranian ancestry in the diaspora,” Abdi said.
