Referring to the history of Moscow's peace negotiations with Kyiv, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that negotiations have no meaning in the current situation.

Iran PressEurope: Russia's Foreign Minister said on Wednesday that holding peace talks with Ukraine made no sense “in the current situation” as Moscow presses ahead with its offensive in the pro-Western country.

“It doesn’t make any sense in the current situation,” Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told state media in an interview, referring to peace talks with Kyiv.

Lavrov said that the first rounds of talks with Ukraine proved that Kyiv had no “desire to discuss anything in earnest.”

Following the suspension of talks between Russia and Ukraine, Dmitry Polyansky, the deputy representative of Russia at the United Nations, said: "Encouraging Ukraine to start meaningful peace talks with Russia is the best help the West can give to Kyiv."

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops to Ukraine on February 24.
