Iran’s Foreign Minister met with the head of the Italian Senate Commission for Foreign Affairs and Immigration in Rome Monday evening, discussing issues of mutual interest including bilateral, regional, and international developments.

Iran PressEurope: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, during talks with Stefania Craxi, considered the role of the parliaments of the two countries as important in expanding bilateral relations through the approval of the documents of cooperation between the two countries and called for the acceleration of the approval of the documents in the Italian Parliament.

Iran's foreign minister further pointed to the developments in Ukraine and said that the Islamic Republic supports dialogue and a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.

The top Iranian diplomat stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with humanitarian aid.

To achieve that goal, Amir-Abdollahian added, Iran has held talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials.

The Iranian foreign minister also spoke about negotiations taking place in the past months with the aim of reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and the removal of the anti-Tehran sanctions.

He said that Iran has presented good initiatives in order for a good and sustainable agreement to be reached and expects the US government to help achieve that goal by taking a realistic approach.  

For his part, the Italian senator said that Iran’s views on the Ukraine crisis and the sanctions removal talks are important.

Craxi also expressed hope that the world experiences more stable conditions.
