Iran's Navy Commander:

Tehran (IP) - The Commander of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced the addition of the Damavand destroyer to the Northern Fleet of the Navy.

Iran PressIran news: A Moudge-class ship was first reported to be under construction in 2001. Warship International wrote in 2008 that four ships of this class were under construction: Mowj (376) launched on 22 February 2007, Jamaran (377) launched on 28 November 2007, as well as Azarakhsh (378) and Tondar (379).

The first ship, Jamaran is said to be completed and is stationed in the port of  Bandar Abbas. Damavand is the second ship in this class. According to OSGEOINT, Damavand was constructed at the Shahid Tamjidi Marine Industries (STMI) fabrication shop on the Caspian Sea at  Bandar-E Anzali.

The Damavand destroyer is an all-Iranian vessel and the second warship of the Moudge-class and an advanced type of Jamaran destroyer, which joined the Northern Fleet of the Army Navy in 2014.

In 2017, this destroyer hit the eastern breakwater of the port while entering Anzali port and had an accident, but it was rebuilt with the efforts of Iranian experts.

Commander of Islamic Republic of Iran Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, said today (Saturday) on the sidelines of the 1401 sustainable security exercise:

The Damavand destroyer was built with the most up-to-date equipment thanks to the efforts of local experts and will soon join the northern fleet of the army navy.

The commander of the army navy added: "Damavand destroyer was built in order to preserve the territorial integrity in the Caspian Sea region."
