Baku (IP) - The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the construction and financing of 'Khoda Afrin' and 'Qiz Qalasi' dams was signed by the heads of the Technical Commission of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran PressAsia: According to the official site of Iran's Ministry of Energy, at the end of the two rounds of negotiations between the heads of the technical commissions of 'Khoda Afrin' and 'Qiz Qalasi' dams, which were held in the presence of Ali Akbar Mehrabian and "Parviz Shahbazov", the ministers of power and energy of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the two sides. 

With the completion of these dams, 1 billion 700 million cubic meters of water and 280 megawatts of electricity generation capacity will be provided for Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In a meeting with the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Iranian Minister of Energy stated that the most important foreign policy of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the development and deepening of relations with its neighbors and said: "This importance has been emphasized in the two meetings of the presidents of the two countries."

Mehrabian cited the many cultural, religious and historical commonalities as the reason for the expansion of relations between the neighboring countries of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan and added that water, energy, transit and commodity exchanges are the most important areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to the joint projects in the Aras border River, the Minister of Energy of Iran said that this river, where different neighboring countries have a share in harvesting and exploiting, is a suitable platform for many years of joint and successful cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, referring to the determination of the presidents of the two countries to develop relations, appreciated the visit of the high-ranking delegation of Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan and added: "This issue not only shows fruitful negotiations but also provides the basis for serious decision-making process."

Parviz Shahbazov added that the cooperation between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the area of ​​the Aras River can be a model for the cooperation of neighboring countries in the region.

The Minister of Energy of Iran arrived in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku, on Tuesday, at the head of a delegation, to meet with the high-ranking officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and was officially welcomed by the Azerbaijani officials.

Ali Akbar Mehrabian, Iranian Minister of Energy, during his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, in his separate talks with the officials of this country, followed up the fields of joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the water and energy fileds.
