Rome (IP) - Italian taxi drivers on Tuesday started at 48-hour nationwide strike against article 10 of the government's competition bill.

Iran PressEurope: They say the deregulation in this bill will open them up to unfair competition from web-based ride-sharing services.

Taxi drivers from all over the country were taking part in a protest in Rome's central Piazza Venezia on Tuesday.

Taxi drivers had asked the Italian government to remove Article 10 of the government's competition bill, which is related to the transportation of passengers in cities, but the government did not agree to their request.

Protesters have announced that they will continue their strikes and demonstrations if the government does not stop approving the bill.

The Italian police closed some streets in Rome and used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
