A senior aide to Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that Iran supports the progress in the political process in Lebanon.

Ali-Asghar Khaji made the remarks in a meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon Joanna Veronica who is on a visit to Tehran.   

Khaji also voiced Tehran’s support for the UN efforts to remove political and economic problems in Lebanon.

The two officials discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and Syria.  

The Iranian Foreign Ministry official referred to the Zionist attack on Syria and violation of the Lebanese air space and stressed the need for a serious response from the United Nations and the international community to the ongoing aggressions.

Khaji also called for UN measures to improve the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and other countries and to ensure their return to their homeland.
