Hormozgan (IP) – Two earthquakes of magnitude 6.3 hit southern Iran in the early hours of Saturday, with tremors felt from both in the Persian Gulf countries.

Iran PressIran News: According to Iran's Seismological Center, affiliated with the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km at 55.3 longitudes, and 26.78 latitudes on early Saturday at 02:02:07 am (local time).

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake and a magnitude 6.1 quake followed the 6.1 quakes that struck the village of Sayeh Khosh. There were more than a dozen aftershocks.

The second one struck at 55.28 longitudes, 26.75 latitudes, and a depth of 26 km, 03:55:16 am (local time).

Hormozgan Red Crescent director also announced that Sayeh Khosh village, with more than 300 households, was the main focus of the earthquake and suffered the most damage.

Mohammad Hassan Nami, head of Iran's Crisis Management Organization, said: "All relief and service devices have been put on alert and assessment teams from the Red Crescent Society's Relief Organization, districts and governorates have been sent to the areas affected by the accident."

According to the early reports, five people have been killed and 44 others injured due to the earthquakes.

Meanwhile, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar emphasized the full readiness of the relief forces of Hormozgan Province and ordered the governor of Hormozgan to use all the facilities and capacities of the province to help the earthquake victims.

Also, after the earthquake, the Isfahan Red Crescent Society dispatched the first relief shipment to the province.
