Iran Press/ Middle East: Earlier this week, Iran and the US held two days of indirect negotiations coordinated by the European Union in Doha. Iran's top diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had a phone conversation with Qatari foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Thursday.
Iranian and Qatari FMs also discussed the latest regional and international developments and the latest developments in Vienna talks to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Also, on Wednesday, Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran's Political Deputy for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and senior Iranian negotiation in Doha talks discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and regional developments with Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Bagheri also describes the hosting by the Qatari government of the current round of negotiations for the removal of anti-Iran sanctions as a show of the country's goodwill in promoting dialog and interaction.
Doha talks about the revival of Iran deal to go on
On Thursday, An advisor to the Iranian negotiating team rejects speculation that the recent round of talks in Qatar on a revival of the 2015 nuclear deal has failed, saying that the negotiations will continue.
"There was never any expectation that these negotiations would culminate in an agreement over a couple of days," Mohammad Marandi commented in an interview with the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen television channel.
European Union envoy Enrique Mora said afterward that the talks had "not yet" made the progress the EU hoped for. Still, that work would continue to facilitate restoring the Iran deal.
He reaffirmed Iran's conditions for revitalizing the nuclear deal, saying the US must lift its anti-Iran sanctions and provide guarantees that "history is not repeated," referring to Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the multi-sided deal in 2018.
He said the Europeans were today "more interested" in doing business with Iran because they needed its oil due to the war in Ukraine and the consequent sanctions they have imposed on Russia.
