Iran Press/ Europe: On May 11 Shireen Abu Akleh, a 51-year-old Palestinian journalist for Al-Jazeera, was shot dead by Zionist militants during live news coverage of an attack by Zionist settlers on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Witnesses said Abu Akleh, a Palestinian American, was killed by a shot to the head although she was wearing a bulletproof vest with the word “Press” that clearly identified her as a journalist. Ali al-Samudi, a Palestinian journalist working as an Al Jazeera producer who was beside her at the time, was also targeted, sustaining a gunshot wound in the back.
In response to the assassination of Abu Akleh, many countries, institutions and international organizations have condemned the Zionist crime and called for the Israeli regime to be held accountable for this atrocity and for an investigation to be carried out.
The statement of this human rights organization regarding the case of the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist from Al-Jazeera in the Jenin camp, reads: "Amnesty International calls for an independent and impartial international inquiry into the murder of Abu Akleh as a war crime."
Amnesty International has previously stated that Israel's decision to oppose the investigation into the assassination of Abu Aklehe violates Israel's obligations under international law. 219
