Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his joint presser with his Russian counterpart, said that Tehran and Moscow aim to formulate a convention on Comprehensive long-term cooperation, which is the strategic one.

Iran PressIran news: Sergei Lavrov, who is on a two-day visit to Tehran at the invitation of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, met with Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi last night and had talks with the Iranian Foreign Minister.

The visit by the Russian Foreign Minister to Tehran is his first under the new Iranian administration.

Discussions on some international issues, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the latest developments in Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan, as well as economic cooperation between the two countries, are among the issues Sergei Lavrov and Amir-Abdollahian discussed.

In a press conference with the Russian Foreign Minister, Iran's Foreign Minister said: "We discussed a comprehensive and long-term cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia."

"I had a good meeting with Mr. Lavrov today on the most important issues of relations," Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told a joint news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday afternoon, Iran press reported.

We also discussed regional and international issues. I welcome Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his accompanying delegation. We discussed global and regional issues today.

He added: "We also discussed a comprehensive and long-term cooperation agreement between the two countries." The idea came before our President Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi to Russia and their meeting with Mr. Putin that we will soon have expert panels to finalize the provisions of this agreement.

Amir Abdullahian continued: "We consulted on two other documents that are from the infrastructure industry for our cooperation in the field of establishment and operation of cultural centers as well as cooperation in the field of international information security between the two countries, which fortunately was approved by the Cabinet in recent days and was sent to the Parliament for final approval.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed: "We agreed to hold a new round of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation. Cooperation in other economic, trade and cultural fields, science and technology, and other issues were also on the agenda of the two sides, and good agreements were reached." 

He continued: "We also had a good agreement on railway projects, including the completion of the Rasht-Astara railway line, and we hope to finalize this project as soon as possible with joint investment."

Iran, Russia cooperate to neutralize US sanctions 

Moreover, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdolhian told the Iran Press correspondent that Iran-Russia cooperation would continue along with the US sanctions.

He added that in parallel with these sanctions, the volume of trade, economic, scientific, defense and tourism exchanges with neighbors increased.

Amir Abdolhian noted: "In cooperation with Russia to neutralize the sanctions, a new turning point was achieved  during Mr. Raisi's visit to Russia and his meeting with Mr. Putin, and the new agreements were also considered by the presidents of the two countries."
