Tehran(IP)- The United Nations Development Program(UNDP) Resident Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran stressed that Iran is one of the countries most exposed to dust, drought, and desert but has made significant efforts to combat it.

Iran PressIran News: The ceremony of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was held in the presence of representatives of embassies of West Asian countries, international organizations, and a group of researchers, scholars, and activists in this field on June 16, 2022, in Iran's Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization.

"Drought and the phenomenon of fine dust bring many pains and challenges, including disease.," said Claudio Providas.

"Investment and education to protect the environment in countries like Iran are commendable," he said, referring to Iran's efforts to combat desertification despite sanctions and widespread unemployment due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

He stressed that drought and desertification could be dealt with only with cooperation and partnership.
