Tehran (IP): On the eve of the Turkmen President's visit to Tehran, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Turkmenistan met.

Iran PressIran News: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his counterpart from Turkmenistan, Raşit Meredow, sat down for talks on issues of mutual interest, ahead of a visit by Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow to the Islamic Republic.

Amirabdollahian once again offered congratulations to Turkmenistan on the successful holding of a presidential election there and emphasized the significance of the Turkmen president’s visit to Tehran on Tuesday on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries.

The Iranian foreign minister said the foundations of ties between the two countries had been laid properly and strongly and that the two sides should work to fully implement a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding reached between them.

He outlined the joint economic, political and cultural projects of the two countries and said three important subjects of cooperation are on the agenda of the two countries this year, including the 17th Joint Economic Commission, the 15th Consular and Border Commission, and the holding of the Joint Economic Consultations Committee between the foreign ministries of Iran and Turkmenistan, which need the attention of both sides.

For his part, Meredow thanked Iran for properly organizing and hosting the meeting, saying the Turkmen president’s trip to Tehran is of high importance for bilateral relations.

He said the Turkmen government had prepared different documents and projects for the visit, expressing hope that the trip would bring about their serious implementation.

The Turkmen foreign minister also stressed the necessity of bilateral and five-sided cooperation toward setting the stage for a summit of heads of the Caspian states in Ashgabat.

During the meeting, the two chfief diplomats also exchanged views on the agenda of the Turkmen president’s visit to Tehran. They also described the Caspian as a sea of friendship and peace, calling for collective efforts to protect the stability, security, and unique environment of the body of water. They also discussed other regional topics such as Afghanistan and the developments in Central Asia, among other things.

Since taking office on August 3, 2021, President Raisi's administration has announced the expansion of cooperation with its neighbors and countries in the region based on the 'Neighbours first policy.'

The policy of neighbors, looking to the east, and participation in regional and supra-regional organizations and institutions such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Agreement and the ECO (The Economic Cooperation Organization) are among the instance of Iran's foreign policy balancing pursued by the 13th administration.

The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, will arrive in Tehran today (Tuesday) at the official invitation of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, at the head of a high-level delegation of political and economic officials.

According to the Iran Press, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir- Abdollahian also met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov today (Tuesday).

Official reception in Saadabad complex, meeting and talks with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, holding a joint session of high-level delegations of the two countries, and signing several documents of cooperation and memorandum are among Serdar Berdimuhamedow's two-day travel plans to Tehran.
