Tehran (IP) – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed sympathy with the Bangladeshi government and people over the massive fire at a container depot near a port city in southeastern Bangladesh, killing at least 49 people.

Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, condoled the people and government of Bangladesh on the incident and sympathized with victims' families, and wished immediate recovery for the wounded.

The fire at the BM Inland Container Depot, a Dutch-Bangladesh joint venture, broke out around midnight following explosions in a container full of chemicals. The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined. The depot is located near Bangladesh's main Chittagong Seaport, 216 kilometers southeast of Dhaka's capital.

At least nine firefighters were among the dead, according to Brigadier-General Main Uddin, director-general of the Bangladesh fire service and civil defense. More than ten others were being treated for burns, he highlighted.
