Mashhad (IP) - Researchers and scientists worldwide must access the rich sources of Imam Reza (PBUH) holy shrine’s central library, the custodian said in the opening ceremony of the holy shrine’s immense treasure of written works.

Iran PressIran news: Experts estimate that the new hall will have a storage capacity of up to 100 million sources, including press archives, documents, manuscripts and lithographs, and print and museum resources for the next 50 years.

The opening ceremony of this hall had several national and provincial officials, including the head of the office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in attendance.

Stating that the opening of this nine-thousand-square meter treasure adds a special section to the Central Library, the Custodian of Imam Reza Holy Shrine Ahmad Marvi said: “All holy shrine’s previous endeavors in books, library, and preservation of Shia heritage during past years will come to fruition by opening this new hall.”

Marvi added that the first endowment of the holy complex was related to books and libraries. Based on this endowment, one of the salient rulers of Isfahan endowed a manuscript to the shrine of Imam Reza around one thousand and one hundred years ago. The library and book repository of the holy shrine was formed about eight centuries ago. 

The custodian went on to say: “Formation of such a unique library in Imam Reza shrine carries this message that the Islamic civilization is based on books, culture, science, and knowledge.”
