Tehran (IP) - Iran has invited the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) head,​​​​​​​ Mohamed Hamel to pay a visit to its giant offshore South Pars gas field.

Iran PressIran news: On Friday, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni extended the invitation to GECF Secretary-General Mohamed Hamel during a meeting on the sidelines of the 26th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition – Iran Oil Show 2022 – in Tehran. Hamel is in Tehran to participate in the event. He delivered his speech early on Friday.

The 26th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition kicked off during an opening ceremony at Tehran’s Permanent Fairground on Friday and will run through Monday, May 16.The four-day exhibition will host 1,200 Iranian and 44 foreign companies or their agents.

Briefing Hamel on the country’s achievements, Chegeni said the Iranian knowledge-based firms have a strong presence in the gas sector, having impressive performance in recent years.

The NIGC chief said: "It seems GECF has the potential to play the role of a link between its member countries and facilitate their cooperation and form a great network."

Cheraghi hailed the GECF statement issued at its recent summit, assuring that it would create an attractive landscape for its members when the words are translated into actions.

The achievements of GECF have been mainly ignored, regretted the top Iranian official, blaming lack of follow-up for failure in implementing them in member states.

Hamel, for his part, said the GECF was set up in 2011 to bring its members together and exchange views and experiences.

He continued: "GECF has all the time called for close cooperation between countries, and some institutes are now cooperating with the forum."

“We are convinced that technology plays a strategic role in the GECF member states,” he added.

Hamel expressed his gratitude to Iran for inviting him to visit the South Pars field, extending his invitation to Chegeni to visit the GECF headquarters in Qatar and exchange views on the gas sector's different issues.
