Tehran (IP) - Iranian foreign minister’s senior adviser for special political affairs called on International organisations, especially the Red Cross, to take the lead in lifting sanctions, implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2585 on the reconstruction of Syria's infrastructure, and increasing their efforts.

Iran PressIran News: In a meeting with the Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Robert Mardini, on Monday, The Iranian foreign minister’s senior advisor for special political affairs, Ali-Asghar Khaji, referred to the developments in Syria and noted that the political and security situation in Syria has improved compared to the past, but the pressure of sanctions and economic problems still afflict the Syrian people.

Khaji called on International organizations, especially the Red Cross, to take the lead in lifting sanctions, implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2585 on the reconstruction of Syria's infrastructure, and increasing their efforts.

Regarding the complicated humanitarian situation of the Yemeni people, the Iranian official stated that now, with the establishment of a nationwide ceasefire in Yemen, conditions are provided for lifting the siege, giving relief, transferring patients abroad through Sana'a airport and exchanging prisoners. He called on the Red Cross and international organizations to take the lead in this regard.

Robert Mardini, for his part, stated that despite the sanctions against the people of Yemen and Syria, the Red Cross emphasizes the need for aid, sending humanitarian aid and rebuilding infrastructure, noting that political issues should not influence this humanitarian aid.

Referring to the presence and services of the Red Cross office in Syria, Mardini announced his readiness to expand cooperation with Iran in the form of an Astana format and to provide bilateral assistance to the people of Syria and Yemen.
