In a recent meeting, the G7 group has committed to phasing out its dependency on Russian energy.

Iran PressEurope: The G7 nations have announced a plan to ban imports of Russian oil, as part of sanctions aimed at the Kremlin, as it vowed to provide more support to Ukraine.

The G7 group including the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan have committed to phasing out their dependency on Russian energy by phasing out or banning the import of Russian oil.

In a statement issued by the White House, it said: “We will ensure that we do so in a timely and orderly fashion, and in ways that provide time for the world to secure alternative supplies.

The G7 is comprised of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the US. The European Union, which has 27 member states, is also considered an honorary member. 

Many of the G7 nations' continued to purchase Russian oil and gas as Ukrainian allies - including Germany.
